About the artist

Jerry Frey

Retirement is fantastic!  I am finally getting to do some things I enjoy:  painting, writing music, writing children’s books, and maybe someday I will finish the novel I started many years ago.

I have lead a full and interesting life.  After college, I started my adult life as a Music Teacher; then I joined the military and became a Naval Aviator after which I jumped to the Massachusetts Army National Guard as a Helicopter Pilot.  Finally, I joined the Sheriff’s Department and retired after 25 years of service at the age of 58 at which time I vowed to NEVER work for another man ever again.

My father kept telling me, “Jerry, you have to find something to do or you’re going to die.”

One Sunday I was sitting in my “Man Cave” watching TV and drinking a glass of wine when I suddenly realized, “HOLY MACKERAL!!!  IT’S ONLY 10:00 AM!!!”

The next morning, I found myself at my favorite hobby store that isn’t open on Sundays buying paints and brushes.  Though I had no training, I began painting in November, 2017.  I first grabbed a hand saw hanging in my garage and painted a scene on it.  Then I painted another…and another…and another before I started painting on canvases and wood.  Eventually I have a 60” circular saw on which I plan to paint the four seasons!

So, back to my promise to myself to never work for another man ever again:  I HATE my new boss…and HE is ME!!!
